IR - 4 Ornamental Horticulture Priority Projects 2008/2009   

Pathology 

1. Phytophthora Efficacy 

a.Finish off unfinished species, primarily P. cryptogea, P. palmivora, P. ramorum, P. tropicalis. 

2. Downy Mildew Efficacy 

a. 2 test systems the first year (tbd) 
b. Other systems during the second year (tbd) 

3.Bacterial Disease Efficacy 

a. 2 - 3 test systems the first year (tbd) 
b. Other systems during the second year depending on results (tbd) 

4. Crop Safety 

a. Actigard (list developed at workshop) 
b. V - 10161 (fluopicolide) is secondary (list tbd in conjunction w/ Valent) 

Entomology 

1. Thrips Efficacy 

a. Western Flower & Chili 
b. Need to standardize methodology 
c. Need to determine specific plant stage 

2. Borers, Beetles, Root Weevils & White Grubs 

a. Target Ambrosia Beetles & Iris Borer 
b. Target Black Vine Weevil, Strawberry Rootworm & Oriental Beetle 

3. Armored Scale 

a. Target limited number (Tea, Camellia, Euonymus, Japanese Maple) that impact multiple regions 
b. One additional unspecified per region 

4. Crop Safety 

a. QRD 400 (list developed at workshop and inputted to the database last night) 
b. BYI - 8330 (list tbd in conjunction w/ Bayer, but preliminary list available from 
2007 research) 

Weed Science 

1. 2008/2009 Herbicide Crop Safety Project (listed in this project unless in the 2007 
Herbicide Crop Safety Project) 

a.Continue to develop BAS 656 EC data over the top on woody ornamentals in containers 
b. Continue to develop BAS 659 G data over the top on herbaceous and tender woody ornamentals in containers 
c. Broadstar 0.25G New Formulation over the top on woody ornamentals in containers 
d. Mesotrione G over the top on woody ornamentals in containers 
e. V - 10142 G over the top on woody ornamentals in containers 
f. NOTE: list developed for c/d/e at workshop; list partially developed for a/b, but need additional input from BASF; some updates to the 2007 project in the database have already been completed with more to follow along with creatin g. the new project 
and PR numbers 

2. If reach 80% completion of the above crop safety project in 2008, we can add a project on directed sprays to field - grown ornamentals with mesotrione EC, sulfentrazone EC, V - 10142 WP 

3. Early Post Emergent Efficacy of Mesotrione G, V - 10142 G, and Broadstar 0.25G New Formulation on Bittercress, Oxalis, and Spurge.
